29.04.2024In Spain, the housing market is facing an enormous challenge. Without the necessary renovations, as many as 80% of existing homes will no longer be able to be sold or rented from 2030.
The reason? An outdated housing supply that does not meet the new European energy efficiency standards.
New energy efficiency standards
According to European regulations, from 2030 all homes sold must have at least an energy label D. All homes that are rented out have a minimum energy label C.
By 2050, when Europe's decarbonization is to be achieved, these properties must emit zero emissions.
Currently, 80% of homes in Spain have an energy label F or G. These homes require a significant effort to meet these new requirements. And those costs spent on housing will never be recouped.
